Guys, I don’t know how many of you actually read my blog or whatever, but I think you should watch the Ted talks video by Sherry Turkle that I just reblogged because I think it’s extremely relevant. Personally, everything she said applies to my life, aside from the avatar thing, but seriously—it’s good. It’ll be 20 minutes you won’t regret.

She pretty much summarized why I even have a tumblr: to talk to myself, define who I am, and discover the uncovered pieces of myself in the process along with aesthetically appealing pictures to boot. I’ve kind of been trying to get away from the computer as much as I can so I can socialize more because I really suck at talking to new people so this hit home pretty hard. I can conversate fairly well after a good introduction, but it’s always kind of rough for me in the beginning.

But yeah, go watch it. Seriously.

Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone?

As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefining human connection and communication — and asks us to think deeply about the new kinds of connection we want to have.

Ryan O’Connell, How To Be Romantic In 2012 (via city-folks)

I put my last barely-a-relationship on facebook for the most stupidest reason and completely regret it. But I’ve learned.

Privacy is intimacy.

"Keeping your relationship off Facebook feels like the ultimate romantic gesture. You’ll let the Internet have bits and pieces of you but it can’t have this. This is the one thing that reminds you of real life."

I’m having dance party by myself to Beyonce right now.

Well, really, I’m cleaning my room and dancing to Beyonce but it’s about the same thing.

I’m cool.

The senior class video really just made me miss my teachers a lot.

Although I’m really happy about graduating and all that, I’m terrified of not amounting to anything which seems highly plausible with the economy now.

My graduation is tomorrow. I’m just going to let this marinate in my mind for a while.

Art’s great nudes have gone skinny

Italian artist Anna Utopia Giordano has created a visual re-imagination of historic nude paintings, had the subjects conformed their bodies to what the 21st century considers an ideal of beauty. The results are revealing—and quite shocking in what they say about the modern attitude toward women’s bodies.

Okay, so most people I know don’t wear watches, and if they do, it’s probably a gaudy G-Shock, Michael Kors, or Juicy Couture one, but I just want to take a moment and just gush about the watch my grandma got me as a graduation present because I think it’s beautiful even though it doesn’t look like much, but right now to me it means the world.

A daily struggle but a good reminder.

"

You don’t have to get a job that makes others feel comfortable about what they perceive as your success. You don’t have to explain what you plan to do with your life. You don’t have to justify your education by demonstrating its financial rewards. You don’t have to maintain an impeccable credit score. Anyone who expects you to do any of those things has no sense of history or economics or science or the arts.

You have to pay your own electric bill. You have to be kind. You have to give it all you got. You have to find people who love you truly and love them back with the same truth.

But that’s all.
